Time
Time records when you work and what you work on — separately. Clocking in and out measures attendance; booking hours against projects and activities measures work. Your working week sets what each day is expected to be worth, and the difference builds up as your balance. Periods are submitted, approved and eventually locked. Holiday comes out of an entitlement; sickness is reported, never with a diagnosis.
Where to find it
Open Time from the sidebar's app row or All apps (/time). Its sidebar is grouped:
Your own time (no heading)
| Entry | Route | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Today | /time | Clock in/out, breaks, today's figures, submit the period |
| Timesheet | /time/board | The week as a grid of hours per day |
| Project time | /time/entries | Timer, hours booked against projects and activities |
| Hours account | /time/account | Recorded versus expected hours through the year |
| Absence | /time/absence | Ask to be away, report sickness, days left |
| My requests | /time/requests | Your open corrections and absence requests (badge: open) |
| Projects ↗ | /projects | Leaves to Projects, when installed |
Team
| Entry | Route | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
| Planner | /time/planner | Everybody — who is away, as bars over a month, quarter or year |
| Approvals | /time/approvals | Approvers (badge: waiting) |
| Reports | /time/reports | People who may read team, project or organisation time |
Setup
| Entry | Route | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
| Rates | /time/rates | People who manage configuration or activities |
| Administration | /time/admin/people | People who manage configuration or schedules |
Entries you cannot use are hidden. The foot of the sidebar shows a running timer (with Stop) and your Balance; select the balance to open your Hours account.
Every page above is also in the search palette: press ⌘K and type, for example, timesheet or
absence. Time approvals and Time reports are offered to whoever may approve or read the
team's time; Rates and Time administration to whoever configures Time.
Roles and permissions
Roles: Employee, Team lead, HR, Administrator, granted at System console → Access → Roles. Every member can use their own time (self-service). A team lead approves for their team; an administrator configures the module. While an approver is away, their approvals can be handed to a colleague for a stretch of days under Administration → Approval delegations. That page is open to administrators and HR, so a team lead without either role asks one of them to set it up. HR can hand over only their own approvals; an administrator can hand over anybody's.
Main workflows
Clock in and out
- Open Today.
- Press Clock in. Take a break and Back from break pause and resume.
- Press Clock out at the end of the day.
- Forgot to start the clock? Adjust the clock → Start earlier, with a reason.

Book time on a project
- Open Project time.
- Start the timer on a project and activity, or Add by hand.
- Today tells you how much attendance is not on a project yet — Book it now jumps here.
- From a project's overview, Book time opens Project time with that project already chosen
in the timer and the filter (
/time/entries?project=<id>). A project you cannot book on is ignored and the page opens unfiltered. - Narrow the list by range, Customer, Project or billable. When the filters leave nothing, the page says so and offers Clear filters.
The running timer stays visible at the foot of the sidebar on every Time page.

Submit a period
- On Today, press Submit this week (or day/month, depending on your organisation's period).
- An approver approves or sends it back with a reason. A sent-back period shows the reason; fix it and Submit again.
Ask to be away or report sickness
- Open Absence.
- Ask to be away for holiday or leave; Report sickness for illness.
- Requests waiting on a decision appear under Waiting on a decision and in My requests.
- Who is away on the same page, or the Planner, shows colleagues' absences.

Approve (team leads)
- Open Approvals (the badge counts what waits). It opens on the first of Absence, Timesheets and Corrections that has something waiting.
- Approve or send back timesheets, absences and corrections.
- From a person's record in People, the Time panel badges open Approvals narrowed to that
person (
/time/approvals?employee=<user id>). The narrowing applies only when that person is in your queue; otherwise the whole queue shows. Remove the Person chip to see everybody.

Report and export
- Open Reports.
- Choose a range and group by project, activity, person, link or day.
- Export writes a file; large exports run in the background.
Settings and admin
Administration (/time/admin/people) holds:
- Working weeks — each person's expected hours per day.
- Holiday entitlement — days per year.
- Approval delegations — who covers for whom.
- What time is booked against — customers, projects and activities available in Time.
- Closed periods — payroll or full locks.
A working week created from an employment contract in People is counted in the time zone on the employee record, or the person's own account zone when the record names none. Weeks created before this was the case may still say UTC, which shifts where each day starts and ends. To correct one, set the employee's time zone in People, then on the Employment tab add a period with the same hours starting on the date the correct zone should apply. Time opens a new working week from that date in the right zone and keeps the hours per day as they were. Days before that date stay as they were counted, and a date in a closed period is refused.
Rates (/time/rates) holds hourly rates and activities. Roles live at
System console → Access → Roles; module settings at System console → Marketplace → Time.
How Time relates to other modules
| You want to… | Do it in |
|---|---|
| Create or archive a project | Projects (Time only books against it) |
| Turn time tracking off for one project | Project → Settings → Track time on this project |
| See absences on a calendar | Calendar draws approved absences as a read-only overlay |
| Skip people who are away when paging | Incidents reads approved absences |
Tips
- Keep the timer in the sidebar running while you work; it survives navigation.
- The Planner's year view shows when the team is thin; the month view shows next week.
Projects
A project is something the organisation is working on: a name, one accountable owner, the dates it runs between, a budget, and everything that belongs to it — boards, milestones, risks, updates, people, files, a chat room and, when Time is installed, the hours booked against it.
Calendar
The Calendar holds your meetings and events, books rooms and equipment, and shows everything else that has a date — approved absences from Time, appointments from Bookings, due dates from Boards, project dates from Projects and reminders from Reminders — as read-only overlays. It is the one place to see your whole week; each overlay is still managed in the module that owns it.
